Carlsbad Desalination Project Recognized as ‘North American Water Deal of the Year’ for 2012
IDE is pleased to announce that the Carlsbad Desalination Project has been recognized by Project Finance, an international infrastructure finance magazine, as the ‘North American Water Deal of the Year’ for 2012. Each year, Project Finance honors innovations, deals, best practices, problem solving, risk mitigation, value for money and speed of delivery in the financing of large and small infrastructure projects worldwide.
For the Carlsbad project, the largest seawater desalination plant in the Western Hemisphere, IDE will be involved in the design and supply of its reverse osmosis solution, resulting in higher efficiency, reduced energy consumption and high-quality water. IDE will also play a role in the operation and maintenance of the plant for 30 years. When completed in 2016, the plant is expected to produce up to 54 million gallons (204,412 m3) of fresh, high quality water per day.
The financing package for the Carlsbad project was also recently shortlisted for the ‘Desalination Deal of the Year’ category of GWI’s Global Water Awards. The award honors deals that represent a significant step forward for the water industry in terms of financial innovation or in meeting the demands of challenging circumstances.
