Municipal Water Treatment
Assisting national and local authorities to provide affordable clean water for ever-growing populations
Municipalities and local governments around the world have to cope with increasing populations and industrial growth, stricter regulations and an ever-decreasing supply of fresh water due to the expansion of drought conditions. They need partners who really understand these issues and can work together on the development, construction, operation and financing of leading edge municipal water treatment solutions.
IDE partners with municipalities around the world to overcome these challenges in smart, efficient, eco-friendly and economical ways. IDE is one of the most advanced and experienced companies in the industry and has decades of experience in working together with municipalities all over the world.
Key Benefits of IDE’s Municipal Water Treatment Solutions
IDE is one the most trusted and experienced suppliers of desalinated water in the industry. We have designed, constructed and currently operate some of the largest seawater reverse osmosis (SWRO) plants in the world, providing a reliable source of clean water at the lowest water cost in the industry.
Pioneering environmental responsibility
In addition to fully complying with environmental and regulatory requirements, IDE is at the forefront of the industry in generating new technologies such as IDE PROGREEN™, a truly innovative, chemical-free desalination ‘plant in a box’, and developing more efficient and sustainable industrial water treatment plants.
IDE has consistently lowered the overall cost of desalinated water on long-term Build Operate and Transfer (BOT) contracts worldwide, while increasing efficiency. IDE’s modular desalination solutions reduce set up and installation times and civil works, and dramatically lower costs. IDE’s plants are among the most energy efficient in the industry, significantly lowering Opex costs.
From the smallest to the largest plants, from seawater (SWRO) to brackish water (BWRO), from the Americas to Asia, using thermal or membrane technology, IDE has the flexibility to deliver the most adequate solution for all customer needs.
IDE works with municipalities as an equipment supplier, turnkey project integrator or sub-contractor, depending on customer needs.
Possible models include joint ventures, strategic partnerships, Build-Operate-Transfer (BOT), Build-Operate-Own (BOO), Engineering-Procurement- Construction (EPC), Engineering-Procurement-Services/Support (EPS), Private Finance Initiative (PFI) and others. Within these frameworks, IDE accepts responsibility for building the project (including securing required financing), and then operating the facility under a long-term concession (ranging from 10-30 years) after which the plant is transferred to the customer.
BOT contracts usually include the sale of the water produced by the plant to governmental and municipal customers for a price established in the contract. Over the past 15 years, IDE has taken on BOT projects of increasing size and complexity, each breaking previous records for increased desalination capacity and decreased desalinated water costs.
