IDE continues strengthening its hold in traditional territories
IDE will provide three Mechanical Vapor Compression (MVC) desalination plants to power plants in Spain and Mexico at a total worth of $4.6 million.
IDE Technologies Ltd., jointly owned by ICL and Delek, has recently signed contracts for the provision of three desalination plants for power plants in Spain and Mexico, at a total worth of $4.6 million. The desalination plants are planned to provide for the entire boiler feed water needs of the power plants.
One desalination plant of a capacity of 700 cubic meters per day (cu.m/day) will be supplied to Baranco Tirajana combined cycle power plant of ENDESA Electrical Company in the Canary Islands, Spain. This is the fifth desalination plant to be provided by IDE for this power plant. The unit, which is currently in its final production phase, will be sent to Spain this January and will start operation in April 2006. The unit will adhere to the strictest European Standards, as well as to those of Spain’s leading Electrical Company, ENDESA. The company has purchased ten different plants from IDE in the past, all operating in a satisfactory manner at various power stations in the Canary Islands in the Atlantic Ocean. The new unit brings IDE’s overall desalination plants in the Canary Islands to 61, all producing high quality desalinated water to municipalities, hotels and power plants.
Two additional units will be provided to the Mexican Electrical Company, CFE. One with a capacity of 120 cu.m/day will be supplied to Abener, the other with a capacity of 768 cu.m/day, will be supplied to Cerrey. Abener and Cerrey are CFE’s main subcontractors; they execute renovation works for power plants in Baja California and in Mazatlan. IDE Technologies has a long-term stand in Mexico, having installed many desalination plants in the past.
The units are now in their final production stages, and will be shipped to Mexico in April and June 2006 respectively.
Commenting on the news, Mr. Avshalom Felber, President and CEO of IDE Technologies, states that winning the contracts for projects in Spain and in Mexico, marks a significant step for IDE in expanding its activities in international markets, and strengthening its position as one of the world’s leading companies for high-quality desalinated water supply applications. Mr. Felber added that there appears to be a clear trend of an increase in the number of water desalination projects around the world, in all desalination technologies, which provides IDE with an opportunity to expand its activities as well as strengthen its hold in the traditional markets, while penetrating new developing markets over the recent period.
