IDE to supply four additional ~$90M worth of desalination plants to an oil refinery in India

IDE has recently been awarded a repeat order by one of the world’s largest oil refineries for four additional desalination facilities valued at approximately $90 million. Located in the Gujarat region of western India, the order is for thermal, Multi-Effect Distillation (MED) desalination units, each with a production capacity of 24,000 cubic meters per day (cu.m/day). According to the agreement, the equipment will be shipped to India within 15-21 months.

Since 1998, the Indian customer has installed five IDE desalination units, with four 12,000 cu.m/day units installed in 1998-1999 and one 15,000 cu.m/day unit installed earlier in 2005. The customer is highly satisfied with the quality of the water produced by the desalination units as well as by their high level of mechanical functionality and reliability. Once the new units have been installed, the refinery will operate nine desalination units, producing a total capacity of approximately 160,000 cu.m/day.

IDE Technologies has been building up an impressive track record in the Indian sub-continent for more than a decade. So far it has installed a total of thirteen desalination units providing water for various applications ranging from nuclear power generation to oil refineries and industrial facilities. The technological excellence of these units in terms of operational simplicity and desalination reliability has led to a steady flow of repeat orders in the region.

Commenting on the news, Avshalom Felber, President and CEO of IDE Technologies, states: “We are proud to report another large repeat order for our outstanding desalination equipment, an achievement which takes our company to new heights of production level and strengthens our position as one of the world’s foremost players in the emerging desalination market. Having supplied some 355 desalination facilities to customers in 40 countries, our technology is now responsible for the production  of more than 900,000 cu.m/day of high-quality water from seawater,  which is being put to municipal and industrial use in the most feasible way.”
