Operations & Maintenance (O&M)

IDE offers comprehensive short-term or long-term O&M services for all types of desalination plants. Plant managers use our services to ensure that their infrastructure processes are run and maintained by experts, thus freeing their personnel to concentrate on their core business.

IDE’s O&M services are provided by local teams with the full backing of IDE’s four decades of engineering and operational expertise.

The value proposition is clear: desalination plants with top-tier performance, predetermined operational costs and long functional lives.

Membrane desalination plants: Over the past decade, IDE has emerged as a clear leader in the construction and operation of large-scale desalination facilities under a BOT (Build-Operate-Transfer) framework.

IDE’s growing experience with BOT projects has enabled it to create desalination plants of steadily increasing capacity, while achieving ever-low prices for desalinated water. Currently, IDE operates 3 mega-sized SWRO plants under long-term (10-26 year) BOT agreements:

• Larnaca – 21.5 million m³/year
• Ashkelon – 118 million m³/year, the world’s 2nd largest SWRO plant
• Hadera - 127 million m³/year, the world’s largest operating SWRO plant

In addition, in 2009 IDE was awarded a BOT contract to create the Soreq SWRO plant, a facility that will desalinate 150 million cubic meters of water per year at a breakthrough price of $0.50 per cubic meter.

Thermal desalination plants: Over the past two decades, IDE has built thermal desalination plants throughout the Caribbean, in India and in numerous other locations worldwide, and now operates some of them under long-term O&M contracts. As a demonstration of the effectiveness of IDE’s ongoing services, several of these MED plants in the Caribbean were built over 30 years ago, and are still fully functional with 98% availability.

IDE provides a broad range of expert services aimed at helping customer-operated desalination plants achieve top-tier performance and availability while minimizing ongoing maintenance costs. These services range from after-sales preventive maintenance to ongoing support and remote monitoring/detection services.
