U.S. Secretary of Energy Visited the Sorek Desalination Plant
This visiting was a part of an agreement to broaden energy cooperation between the U.S. and Israel
U.S. Secretary of Energy, Dr. Ernest Moniz, visited the Sorek plant as part of an agreement to broaden energy cooperation between the U.S. and Israel. Dr. Moniz was hosted by IDE’s CEO, Avshalom Felber at the plant.
Dr. Moniz was also accompanied by Dr. Yuval Steinitz, Israeli Minister of National Infrastructure, Energy and Water Resources, during his visit to the world’s largest seawater reverse osmosis (SWRO) desalination plant in Sorek. This plant provides a current capacity of 624,000m³/day of fresh, potable water making it the world’s largest and most advanced SWRO desalination plant.
While Dr. Moniz was in Israel, he also signed a new energy agreement which will encourage further cooperation between the two nations on smart grid technologies, water desalination and treatment, and protection against potential physical and cyber threats.
Earlier this year, the Texas Governor Gregg Abbott also visited Israel and the Sorek plant.
